Background of the Study
Library space design has emerged as an essential component in enhancing the overall user satisfaction in academic environments. At Ahmadu Bello University, the configuration and aesthetics of library spaces are increasingly recognized as factors influencing user comfort, productivity, and engagement (Adebayo, 2023). The physical layout, lighting, seating arrangements, and quiet zones play a crucial role in promoting an environment conducive to learning and collaboration. Modern library space design integrates both traditional study areas and innovative zones for group work and digital learning, thereby fostering a holistic academic experience (Adebayo, 2023; Bello, 2024). The university is actively investing in creating spaces that not only support academic work but also offer opportunities for relaxation and creativity. This transformation is in response to growing user demands for environments that provide both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the study underscores that a well-designed library space can bridge the gap between formal education and creative thinking, ultimately contributing to a supportive academic ecosystem. This research will explore the specific design elements that impact user satisfaction and offer recommendations for enhancing the functional and experiential aspects of library spaces (Bello, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Despite substantial investment in library infrastructure at Ahmadu Bello University, there remains a notable gap in user satisfaction concerning space design. Many users report that current library layouts do not adequately cater to diverse learning and social needs, with issues such as insufficient quiet zones, limited collaborative areas, and non-optimal lighting conditions affecting the overall experience (Bello, 2024). Such limitations have led to decreased usage of library facilities, particularly among students who require spaces that accommodate both individual and group study. The gap between user expectations and the current physical configurations indicates a need for strategic redesign to enhance overall satisfaction and improve the learning environment (Adebayo, 2023).

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it highlights the direct influence of physical space design on academic success. Understanding user preferences can drive architectural innovations that foster better academic performance and social interaction. The findings provide administrators with practical insights for revamping library environments to meet modern educational demands (Adebayo, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is confined to assessing the library space design at Ahmadu Bello University and does not include digital space considerations.
